E-mail: [email protected] Developmental venous anomaly (DVA), also known as venous angioma, is becoming the most commonly encountered intracranial vascular malformation in central nervous system (CNS) imaging. It is thought that DVA develops during development of the venous system which results in the preservation of primitive embryological medullary veins, draining into a single longer vein. Thrombosis of the collector vein of a DVA is a rare complication leading to cerebral venous infarction (CVI).

Developmental Venous Anomaly Complicated by Cerebral Venous Infarction
Developmental venous anomaly is a vascular malformation thought to be a benign embryologic variant. We describe a patient who presented with focal neurological deficits and parathesia due to an infarct associated with a developmental venous anomaly with a thrombosed draining vein.
متن کاملMultimodal Imaging Follow-up of a Thrombosed Developmental Venous Anomaly: CT, CT Angiography and Digital Subtraction Angiography
We report a rare case of thrombosed developmental venous anomaly (DVA) in a 31-year old male with hemorrhagic cerebral venous infarction at the initial clinical presentation. In this case, sequential CT, CT angiography and digital subtraction angiography demonstrated thrombotic obstruction of the venous drainage from DVA, its progressive recanalization and temporal evolution of the affected bra...
متن کاملSymptomatic Infratentorial Thrombosed Developmental Venous Anomaly: Case Report and Review of the Literature.
BACKGROUND Developmental venous anomalies (DVAs) are variations of normal transmedullary veins draining white and gray matter. In the vast majority of cases, DVAs are diagnosed incidentally and should be considered as benign entities. In extremely rare circumstances, DVAs may become symptomatic due to mechanical or flow-related etiologies. Thrombosis of the collector vein of a DVA is a rare typ...
متن کاملSurgical Treatment of Venous Varix Associated with a Cerebral Developmental Venous Anomaly
Venous varix occurring with a developmental venous anomaly is a rare disease entity that may be found incidentally by conventional cerebral angiography. Developmental venous anomaly (DVA) without venous varix has a normal physiology, and thus, in most cases treatment is not necessary. Although most varices with venous anomalies are known to be clinically silent but if hemorrhage from increased ...
متن کاملCerebellar infarct caused by spontaneous thrombosis of a developmental venous anomaly of the posterior fossa.
Spontaneous thrombosis of a posterior fossa developmental venous anomaly (DVA) caused a nonhemorrhagic cerebellar infarct in a 31-year-old man who also harbored a midbrain cavernous angioma. DVA thrombosis was well depicted on CT and MR studies and was proved at angiography by the demonstration of an endoluminal clot.
